A Farewell to Phoenix

Awww. A farewell to you Phoenix Mars Lander.

The Phoenix Mars Lander was sent up to Mars by NASA in the hopes of gathering important scientific information about the red planet. It did. But then it went dead, and this was it’s final transmission…

FuddyTV Projects Barack Obama as President

While we remain excessively partisan and unbiased (we did not endorse either candidate), we would like to project the next President of the United States as Barack Obama.

I believe this is the feeling among Obama voters:

Back on stage

I love the theater. There is a real sense of danger to it. You’re out on the stage with your fellow actors exposed and alone. You immerse yourself in a world of make believe as you struggle with the truth of the story being told for the audience. But there is such a thrill that comes along with that. A real adrenalin rush. Balancing between reality and fiction with a mix of real emotions that send you into being in the moment with those other actors.

I have missed this feeling quite a lot. But I have received the opportunity to perform in a play called Amber Lights, which will be showing at The Birds and Stone theater in Calgary (16 Ave. and 1 St. N.W.) from Nov.12 till the 22 at 8:00 pm. The show is about a young girl that goes missing up north along the “Highway of Tears”. I really hope to see you out there in the audience.

I tip my hat to you,

David.

Where Does Fuddy Fit?

I just watched an episode of one of the most watched duos on YouTube: Smosh

My opinion, they blow. Hard.

While I’ll never get that time back, it atleast got me thinking. Where does Fuddy fit in this whole world we’re in. Are we simply web people who will float around the internet for the rest of our lives or will we truly be what we want to be…a full production company.

I look at Smosh and get their appeal, but perhaps it’s not fair to compare each other. In fact I know it’s not fair. As I got from watching they seemed rather one dimensional, going for the gag, looking for the funny…all the time, every time. We tend to be a little obscure, kind of like an early William Shatner album. We don’t make our videos looking for laughs, we seek to entertain and that comes in many forms. The cry, the cringe, the jump, the laugh, the fright and more…I think its far more rewarding for our followers to see something different instead of the same old gag to gag routine.

I guess we’ve shown already that we can break the mold and create entertainment that can be thought provoking, controversial and, yes, funny. In a year we’ve gone all over, too many places to recall, and we’ve only just begun. Call it our Stalinesque 5 year plan, just without the death and starvation.

Watching Smosh tonight I realized we’ve actually hit a crossroad. We’re not Smosh, we’re not Castlerock Entertainment. Somewhere muddled in between we sit. It’s not a bad place to be, by any means, but it’s a fascinating place that’s for sure.

Where does Fuddy fit?

Contest Kickoff!

We kicked off the contest today, Helping Boris Find Juri, and couldn’t be happier. Couple things to touch on when you actually watch the video of Boris reacting to losing Juri:

1. The video was an idea hatched out of boredom. I wanted to shave my hair off, thought I should film it for something, thought of doing it as Boris and taking a page from the Royal Tenenbaums film where Luke Wilson almost kills himself in the bathroom.

2. Dave brilliantly decided it should be a contest where he loses Juri. Fantastic idea David…snaps for you and snaps for our behind the scenes guru…you know who you are :)

Thus we’re giving away that fancy new iPod Nano and a chance to be in a Fuddy video.

We’ll wrap up the contest with a finale video and announce who won the iPod and the FuddyTV spot (and not one of those “hey walk by the camera real quick, k thx by).

I tussled with a bear…and got KO’d!

this is me, post knockout

this is me, post knockout

For all of the fuddy fans out there. Here is a little snippet about me. I box. Problem is I am a terrible boxer. I have managed to climb the ranks of the wmbba (world man-beast boxing association), only to get knocked out in the second round by Zangief, a russian circus bear turned man-beater.

At first it was easy. My first match was against Sammy the snake. No problem there. Sammy couldn’t wear boxing gloves and he wasn’t even poisonous. Sammy’s a garter, I think.

Then I had a fight with Ronald the hawk thrasher squirrel. I think he got the name cause he beat up a hawk one time. You know, the squirrel was pretty tough. He kept running up my leg to give me a few good bops in the face and then would run down before I could react. He was fast. I eventually figured out this tactic and started to punch myself in the face when he latched on to it. I beat Ronald in the fourth round.

It went on and on like this for a while. A Canada goose, a zebra and a puffer fish are just some of the subsequent matches I had. Once I figured out their weaknesses, a win was inevitable. Then came the big match. The Championship!

I have to admit, I was a little worried. I heard some crazy things about Zangief. One guy told be to watch my ears. He said Zangief had a collection of human ears in his den from previous fights. ”Great” I thought.”I’m up against a bear who doesn’t want to bite my ear off, but keep it as a souvenir in his extensive EAR collection.” Some people have comic books, this guy has frickn’ ears! ‘No problem, I’ll wear a head band.”

Anyway, Zangief’s showboating at the beginning of the match didn’t help my confidence any. The crowd loved this guy. How could I compete with that.

Zangief had a cape. I didn’t have a cape. I really want a cape now. When the match started I decided I would use a more evasive style. Zangief wasn’t too quick on his feet so out maneuvering  him was easy. I landed several solid blows the first round but Zangief wasn’t even phased by my meager assault. In the end I was KO’d by one punch. One stinking punch ended my career in the WMBBA. It’s okay though. I still have ears…both of them.

Erik Eldman (former contender for the World man-beast boxing association)

Would you like a cold one? Or maybe a warm one?

Okay! Here we go! My first blog. How exciting!

Well, FuddyTV members I would like to share some cool news with you. I was cast as a Wingman in a Coors Light Beer commercial not too long ago and it has just recently started to appear on TV. I play a man who has strapped himself to a set of home made feathered wings and is trying to take flight in order to break into the Coors light mystery mansion. Maybe you have already seen it? It was a lot of hard work shooting this commercial because of all the running that was involved. Not to mention each wing was nine feet long and weighed like 50lbs. “Flap harder!” the director would yell from behind the camera.

At the end of the day I felt like my entire body was mashed potatoes, and I’m not talking about the flaky mashed potatoes that you mix together from out of a box, I am talking about the real mashed potatoes with the melted pool of butter in the center.  But after all was said and done, I went out and enjoyed a couple of frosty Coors Light beers as a reward…and a plate of mashed potatoes.

I tip my hat to you,
David.

Car Dance Party Belgium Finalists - Our Pick!

The “Car Dance Party Belgium” contest has wrapped up at http://www.cardanceparty.be! Ten videos remain and they’ll battle it out for Car Dance Party Belgium supremacy and a brand new Toyota Aygo!

So, we took a look at the ten remaining videos and have decided who should win. It should come as no surprise that we choose Eric and Erica’s video entitled “Car Dance Party Transylvania!”. With that said, I implore and plead with all of you to vote, comment and plug the heck out of “Car Dance Party Transylvania”.

Here’s WHY you should. They aren’t Belgian, and I doubt they’ll head all the way to Belgium to pick up a car that isn’t accepted here in Canada, so they have decided that if they win Eric and Erica will donate the car or value of to a charity in Belgium. How awesome is that!?!?

So please, vote your faces off and support charity while doing it!

Cheers,
Ryan for FuddyTV
