George Takei: A Conversation.

There is something to be said about the addage “Ask and ye shall receive”.

That’s exactly what happened just prior to the Calgary Comicon. I saw on the website that legend George Takei, Lieutenant Sulu on the original Star Trek, was going to be in attendance. The thought crossed my mind, how cool would it be if Chuck Storm interviewed this TV deity? I quickly found George’s official website and shot off an email requesting an interview. Of course I belived there would be no chance in hell that I would hear back, but it was worth a shot.

Ask, and ye shall receive…Enjoy!

Live long and prosper…

FuddyTV Posters…

I came up with some posters to sell when we are at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo. Personally I like the Dance Party Poster, but the Chuck Storm poster gives it a run for its money!

Here they are!

Your Voting Worked, Let’s Do it Again!

I got word today we won our preliminary round in the WeShow.com Awards! Indeed we were voted “Best Blooper Video”! Neato gang!

What happens next? Well, we now are onto the next round, where we are against ten other videos for “Best Comedy Video”, which is huge. If we win that, we move onto “Best Video” and then FuddyTV will be splashed all over their website along with an extensive interview and all sorts of other nice little things. We are extremely happy and proud just to have been nominated, but to have won is amazing! Who knew three kids from Canada could go where we’ve gone?

VOTE FOR “NEWS REPORTER BLOOPER” on WeShow.com! THANKS EVERYONE!

With that said, here’s a few musings from me….

We shot a rather odd, but funny bit called “Friends and Neighbors”. In a sort of Home & Garden meets Bob Villa sketch, I play Evan Terry, who is soft-spoken, geeky, and very welcoming to all of his friends and neighbors. Of course no skit would be complete without some sort of twist….enter Arthur Janikowski, the man who will help Evan get his garden up and running for the BBQing season….Oh, it’s a good one.

Dave is off to L.A. for a trip, which is nice for him. While Erik and I toil here in Calgary, he will be off in LaLaLand enjoying the hot weather, sun, surf and the 405. Which recalls a question I get asked all the time, having recently moved back to Canada from Los Angeles people always ask “Did you go to the beach everyday?”.

No.

In fact, I think in 2006 I went a total of 3 times. It’s like any other city, for instance people from NYC don’t frequent the Statue of Liberty, and here in Calgary the majestic Rocky Mountains are an hour away, yet I never go there either. I guess you take these kinds of things for granted when they are easily accessible. However in my defense, the beach was in no way, shape or form close to where I lived. Yes, on a perfect day it would only be a twenty minute drive, but take the 405 freeway during the day and your twenty minute trip is easily two hours.

So have fun Dave….go see a Droogs game ;)

Well, it’s bedtime…until tomorrow….

Thank you CityTV and Breakfast TV!

FuddyTV on CityTV BreakfastTV Calgary

Just got home from our day at CityTV here in Calgary and it was awesome, no other words to describe it.

We showed up at about 7:00am and met Glen(n?) who welcomed us as he organized the show. We were certainly nervous, maybe a little overwhelmed, but they made it so easy and relaxing for us when we arrived. It was really interesting how easy, fun, kooky and chill it was inside the studio. Everyone was super nice and very welcoming. So we sat down, drank some coffee, chatted with other people as Dave Kelly hosted just 10 feet away.

At 7:35am we were live, and all the jitters, nervousness, and turning stomachs were gone. I gotta say, Dave Kelly was amazing, he sat down with us and chatted before we went on and was really interested in what we were doing and what we had to say. I guess the interview went well, of course we can’t really tell since we didn’t see it, but we felt as though we did a pretty good job.

That segment ended and we got changed to do a live version of “Food Fight Party Moscow”….yup, I wore the black one-piece….and it was fantastic.

Poor Dave Hasyom, I felt bad for him, three different pies in the face….So in our Boris and Juri get up we performed the “Catch & Reverse” upon which we taught host Dave Kelly how to effectively perform it too. So with time to spare I was able to bring out our special occasion move, the “Siberian Windmill”. I can’t say it enough how comfortable we felt, how easy it was, yet how professional it all turned out to be.

As we’re leaving Judy Gabriel, who does “Your City”, asks if we would do an interview for her show! Uhhhh, yes! So we take a little break, come back to the studio and across the street we shoot separate interviews for all three of us and perform a special “Chuck Storm” take. Judy was an astounding interviewer, Dave and I mentioned this after we’d both been interviewed. It was almost as if we were simply talking to a friend about FuddyTV and our pasts. Really cool, really easy, really fun and very very nice….and Scott the cameraman was great!

So our humble thank you to everyone at CityTV Calgary, you made our first TV interview such an amazing experience….what more can I say….

Cheers,

Chuck Storm makes CNN

Chuck Storm Action News 5 Reporter Pole CNN Jeanne Moos FUDDYTV

When I woke up yesterday it seemed like any other ordinary day. My eyes rather tired, perhaps a little puffy and the need for some coffee was strong. So I awkwardly made my way downstairs, ground up some Starbucks Coffee, filled up the water and pressed “Brew”. The sweet smell of coffee filled the air and the fog of just waking up subsided. So the day started like any other.

Until later.

That’s when I read the comment Keith made on our “The Story Behind Chuck Storm” blog post. He wrote maybe Chuck Storm will never end up on CNN again….Thing is, I never clued into it, never thought anything of it. But as I continued my day and read my favorite Calgary Flames Message Board (CalgaryPuck.com) and one poster mentioned they saw the video on CNN, it started to click. So I quickly got on the horn and called Dave, the conversation went down like this:

Dave: “Hey”
Ryan: “What’s going on?”
Dave: “Why are you calling me?”
Ryan: “What do you mean?”
Dave: “Is there a reason you’re calling me?”
Ryan: “Not really, why…WHY?”
Dave: “You haven’t heard?”
Ryan: “Well you called me earlier, what’s up?”
Dave: “Erik’s aunt said she was watching CNN and the video was shown”
Ryan: (After a pregnant pause) “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?!?!”

So as I scrambled to find anywhere I could find it I had no luck, having not seen it. I went through the videos on CNN.com and found nothing. Finally, someone gave me the link and it was part of a story by Jeanne Moos (who I quite like) about, essentially, people getting hurt and it being caught on camera, all started with Beyonce falling at one of her concerts. Sure enough part of that story was the inclusion of our very own character “Chuck Storm”.

First of all, I like Jeanne Moos, her stories are always entertaining, second I’m a big CNN fan, third they showed the website and referenced the name FuddyTV.com! I couldn’t believe my eyes. I didn’t think anything like this would be happening, but lo and behold it is.

So needless to say, a big thank you to Jeannie Moos and CNN. A tip of the cap to you!

Here’s the video if you weren’t able to see it….(from CNN.com):

The Story Behind Chuck Storm

The Story Behind Action News 5 Reporter Chuck Storm Hits Pole

WATCH THE VIDEO HERE! OR MORE OF OUR SCHTUFF HERE!

Trust us when we say that this came completely out of left field! The amount of goodwill and well-wishes and even negative comments has been astounding. I think we’ve all gone through a little bit of “Shock & Awe” about the thing, but needless to say we are humbled and honored that it could at least make people laugh….if only for 8 seconds.

In March, we shot a couple videos that day, both of which have long since hit the trash can, but we thought we had some time to do another. Dave (David Haysom) had come up with the idea of a news reporter who was continually getting hurt every time reported the news, thus Chuck Storm was born. We weren’t entirely sure how to work it, how it would pan out, so we just did a couple takes and I used my “reporter” voice and hit the pole.

The original idea for Chuck Storm was to be a continuing character that, as I mentioned before, would simply get hurt every time he reported a story. As the videos progressed his injuries would get more and more bizarre. As “KleenexDust” said in her comment on our YouTube version, “Chuck Storm….is the guy every mother wants for their daughter”. That’s what he was to us, just a fun-loving, really nice guy who loved to report the news, but had the worst luck of anyone imaginable. He was naive, hard-working and the most honest man in journalism. Even when he had all his ducks in a row, there was a part of you that just felt sorry for him.

After that we uploaded it to YouTube and continued on making our other videos. People around us liked Chuck Storm, people who saw it on YouTube liked it. So clearly the idea, from the get-go, was to have it recurring.

We put a lot of thought into what his follow-up would be and came up with a couple and decided to shoot the “Stung by Bees” which we in fact shot BEFORE the Chuck Storm craze started.

Mom liked it.

Needless to say this has been a wild ride for us and we’re excited, humbled and thankful. A big cheers to Videoblazer.net too.

What we have to decide now is should Chuck Storm effectively die? While we wanted him to be a recurring character, I’m not so sure any more….Perhaps he’s hit his peak. This would make a good poll. No pun intended. Really. As I wrote that I just realized….

Welcome to the World Chuck Storm.

Chuck Storm News Reporter Action 5 News FuddyTV.com

Our favorite character, Action 5 news reporter Chuck Storm has been spreading like wildfire throughout the internets, and frankly it shocked us oh, just a bit. I woke up this morning to find many emails, views, ratings, clicks, comments and we couldn’t be happier and more thankful. It is our simple goal just to make people chuckle, even if only for 8 seconds. While, you know, money is nice, the idea that there are thousands of people out there enjoying one man’s smack into a pole…there’s something pretty nice about that.

FuddyTV is the brainchild of Ryan Northcott, Dave Haysom and Erik Eldman. We’re just a couple three guys who have worked in the entertainment industry but don’t like being restricted and love art for art’s sake. This is simply the beginning of FuddyTV, really we haven’t even begun.

So we’re definitely a little shocked, surprised and happy to see Chuck Storm get his spot in the limelight for a minute. It’s quite the thing….

Thanks for supporting FuddyTV and Chuck Storm!
