Simon Whitfield is Awesome

Much has been written on how mediocre Canada has been at the Beijing Olympics…while it lasted for only a few moments, American swimmer Michael Phelps had more gold medals than Canada had medals, which was a little disturbing.

Needless to say, Canada had a “diahrrea” of medals over the weekend and into this week, which is to say we went from a big round zero to now 11 medals, which is just enough for all of us in Canada to feel as though we’ve got it all together.

Simon Whitfield is awesome. Can I just say that right now? The guys wins gold in the triathalon in the Sydney Olympics, doesn’t show for Athens and again, at the age of 33 narrowily misses out on the gold in this year’s Beijing triathalon.

His performance was gutsy, heroic and inspiring. Way to go Simon, you are the one I wanted to win a medal. Congrats.

Finally, a tip of the hat to Ian Miller. The equestrian from Canada finally, FINALLY, after 9 Olympic Games gets himself a silver medal. I grew up around Spruce Meadows in Calgary watching show jumping as my Grandpa was part of the Steele’s Scouts and will always remember cheering Ian Miller on.

Cheers,

Now if beerdrinking would be an olympic discipline, we’d humiliate the germans, tell the dutch that practicing doesnt mean drinking water and we’d tell the French to stick to Wine because thats what they are good at.

Or did i stop making sense a few lines ago…

    Hooray for Belgium!

Actually I was shocked, SHOCKED to see that the Belgian men’s field hockey team beat Canada 3-0 the other day. Shocked! Canada lives and breathes hockey, yet we were demolished by Belgium. So congratulations on that!

I can attest to the beer drinking, I saw it first hand and I was impressed. While we don’t get the brands like Duvel, Chimay or Leffe here in Canada we do have Stella…and I have become a disciple!

    Hail to Stella,
and anyone who’s ever done more then 5 Duvels. Deserves a medal too.

    hahaha.

And about the hockey>… honestly i didnt even know we had a hockey team lol. Go figure…

And that Simon Whitfield. Damn you gotta do it at 33…
And i hear Canada got a gold medal on women wrestling… Now there is a spectator sport that i like. :) That in combination with Stella.

You know who will get the gold medal in Duvel drinking?

    Erik.

When we first arrived in Belgium, we heard of the legend that is Duvel so Erik took it upon himself to break the myth…and he did!

    no way!!!

Well i have to say, there are many who feel they are called to try that, yet not many succeed…

He is truly a man of stature. :)
Honestly, in my student days, ive seen Germans, Tshechs, Russians and Dutch guys try it in our student bar. The record was 11 in the bar.

The dutch guys were so cocky. “Paaah 10 of them is easy. Its only beer man, no way you can get that drunk of it.”

Its not funny to watch a grown man pee himself after 9 of them, looooool.

Truly a remarkable accomplishment from Eric.
My max was 9. But damn it gets hard after the 8th one.

But go Canada go. Another gold medal!
If i would be northamerican, Id be Canadian!!
in fact im gonna make that my new motto.

And im gonna do a few tshirts like that too. hahahaha.,
