Theatre for All…women of course.

If you had a chance to look at the “Another Place” trailer posted right here, you saw a woman play my sister/boss named Jessica Dollard. We were high school drama geeks, sharpening our chops on theatre projects like Fiddler On the Roof and more.

As time has gone on, we’ve all done our thing out in the world, yet Jessica has managed to create a truly unique not-for-profit theatre group which is taking Calgary by storm. Which is why the Calgary Herald featured her story and merger with another theatre group in today’s edition.

While we focus so much of our attention on web video, all of us are deeply rooted in theatre and in all reality probably wouldn’t be what we are doing today if it wasn’t for the thrill of live performance.

So congrats to our friend Jessica and be sure to check out what’s happening at Urban Curvz:

Simon Whitfield is Awesome

Much has been written on how mediocre Canada has been at the Beijing Olympics…while it lasted for only a few moments, American swimmer Michael Phelps had more gold medals than Canada had medals, which was a little disturbing.

Needless to say, Canada had a “diahrrea” of medals over the weekend and into this week, which is to say we went from a big round zero to now 11 medals, which is just enough for all of us in Canada to feel as though we’ve got it all together.

Simon Whitfield is awesome. Can I just say that right now? The guys wins gold in the triathalon in the Sydney Olympics, doesn’t show for Athens and again, at the age of 33 narrowily misses out on the gold in this year’s Beijing triathalon.

His performance was gutsy, heroic and inspiring. Way to go Simon, you are the one I wanted to win a medal. Congrats.

Finally, a tip of the hat to Ian Miller. The equestrian from Canada finally, FINALLY, after 9 Olympic Games gets himself a silver medal. I grew up around Spruce Meadows in Calgary watching show jumping as my Grandpa was part of the Steele’s Scouts and will always remember cheering Ian Miller on.

NOT HAPPY

After riding several under 4 foot rides, Edna decided it was time to try the “Big Kid” rides, which she immediately regretted.

The Untitled Buttermilk Pancake Project

We are secretly working on a project I have decided to name “The Untitled Buttermilk Pancake Project”. It is much the same as “The Alan Parsons Project” just without Alan Parsons. The project included Buttermilk Pancakes, music, dancing and more. First let me give you some insight as to why we are doing the Buttermilk Pancake Project. It came to me fluidly, as if I was in a dream state. Details are hazy, but it began making dinner at home, looking in the cupboard for a spice and seeing the inspiration for a new FuddyTV moving picture. Yes like a beacon of light, emanating out of the cupboard like the halo of Jesus himself (or herself since I just saw The Da Vinci Code). A small nondescript, possibly generic brand of Buttermilk Pancakes staring back at me saying…sing to me, sing of me.

And it will be so…

Another Place Trailer!!

Over the last few months Dave and I have been working with our friends Director Mike Moller and Producer Eric Giesbrecht on a short film called “Another Place”. I’m excited to share with you the trailer for the film that Eric put up just moments ago…

“…a short film shot in Calgary with Ryan Northcott, David Haysom, Jessica Dollard, Jim Osenton, Olivia Moller, and Erika Livingstone. Another Place tells the story of a street magician caught between the work-a-day world of his sister and his successful novelist brother.”

Can’t wait to see the final product on so many levels. One for the actual movie itself and the other because we’ve got a hefty set of bloopers.

An Internet Explorer Issue…[FIXED]

For those of your using Internet Explorer to look at FuddyTV, we’re aware of this:

Internet Explorer cannot open site operation aborted

Meanwhile USE FIREFOX and you won’t have any problems!

We’re trying to find out which code is making it not work…Stay Tuned….

[THE FIX]
Apprently what was causing the crash on Internet Explorer was the “object” tag in the embedded YouTube video in the header. The code was manipulated slightly and now it works like a charm.

However, while I was putzing around the site I came across a plethora of ridiculous Internet Explorer caused errors, which have also been fixed.
Again, I cannot emphasize any more….get FIREFOX! Your computer will love you.

PETA Compares Bus Killing to Animal Slaughter.

PETA, no not the flavorful bread, is using the brutal attack and murder of Tim McLean on a Greyhound Bus by the hands of Vince Weiguang Li to shed light on how animals feel when they are slaughtered.

PETA Bus Killing Tim McLean Greyhound

I am certainly one who thinks animals need to be treated fairly when they are being killed for our own consumption, but comparing these two - animal slaughter and the Tim McLean murder - is tasteless, immoral and exactly the reason PETA alienates themselves from the mainstream. Just think how much more effective they would be if they could just do things RIGHT instead of constant publicity stunts aimed at getting (often bad) attention. This is why they are considered radicals.

The Bus Killing shook us all a little bit, simply because this is not something that happens in Canada. If this happened in a far off land across seas, perhaps it wouldn’t be so shocking, but in our own little humpty-dumpty country, this isn’t something we could fathom.

I give big thumbs down to PETA on this one. They are exploiting this terrible tragedy, a tragedy that has devastated a family.

There are better ways to get your message out there PETA…you’re just making yourself look bad.
